So long that it still hasn't ended.
Saturday we drove to Jackson where my friend's dad was able to save us... wait for it... $500 per ticket over the absolute lowest price I could find and give us a 1 1/2 day layover in my favorite city, Washington DC. Woohoo!
We leave on May 30th, at some ridiculous time from Birmingham, and get in to Baltimore at 9am. We will take a train from Baltimore to Washington (about 30 minutes) and explore my Disney World (Smithsonian Natural history and Smithsonian American history), the National Mall area and the 40,000 square foot Whole Foods (!!) until we get tired. We will then take the metro and a bus to our hotel, where we will check in and collapse. The next day, we will check out of the hotel, head to Dulles International airport, and by the next morning we will be in Copenhagen. After a short layover and a shorter flight (1 hour), we will be in Hannover.
We ended up with Scandinavian Air, which might work out better because there is a large amount of Scandinavians with celiac disease, so I might have a better shot at a decent gluten free meal. I still plan to take my food, just in case.
We are currently deciding whether to stay at a hotel in Birmingham or just drive (about 3 hours), and picking hotels in Washington. Any suggestions?
